After all, it is his unique perceptive abilities that figure out some crucial pieces of the puzzle.Īll in all, this is a terrific read. Dowd gives us a fascinating look into someone whose brain operates differently from most people’s-but instead of creating pity in the reader, she enables us to really appreciate the abilities someone like Ted has. He’s incredibly high functioning and is the narrator of the book. This would be interesting even without the added fact of Ted’s “syndrome”-something on the autism spectrum, I’m guessing. The rest of the book is focused on solving the mystery of how someone could get on the Eye–a closed system–and not get off at the end of the ride. During their stay, Salim goes for a ride on the London Eye (the giant Ferris wheel on the banks of the Thames), but he doesn’t get off. So his cousins Kat and Ted do some investigating of their own to find there cousin.Ted and Kat’s cousin Salim (and his crazy mother Aunt Gloria) have come to visit unexpectedly for a couple of days. Really, this book is about a boy who goes onto the London Eye, and when his pod lands he isn't there. They follow a trail of clues across London in a desperate bid to find their cousin, while time ticks dangerously by. Ted, whose brain runs on its own operating system, and his older sister Kat, overcome their prickly relationship to become sleuthing partners. When Aunt Gloria's son, Salim, mysteriously disappears from a sealed pod on the London Eye, everyone is frantic.Įven the police are baffled. Here's some writing that's on the inside cover that also hooks you in: People exit in all shapes and sizes – but where is Salim? He turns and waves and the pod rises from the ground. Ted and Kat watch their cousin Salim get on board the London Eye. So, I think that anyone who like a bit of a thrilling mystery would just sink into this book.įor a quick taste of the book here's the blurb that persuaded me into reading it: I would say the thrilling part is the whole story because it's such a joy and excitement to read. Also, the adventure part is at the ending, its something that no-one would guess in a million years. The genre for it I would put under thrill/adventure/mystery because all the way through it has non stop questions so you have to stop and think, to see if you can answer the questions before you read the answers.
